Visa Process at Vietnam Airports
Since its launch, Vietnam’s visa-on-arrival option has become increasingly popular among travelers arriving by air. However, it is only applicable to those flying into the country.
To obtain a Vietnam visa on arrival, travelers must secure a visa approval letter in advance. Once they have this letter, they can take their flight to Vietnam and receive their visa stamp upon landing at one of the authorized international airports. This option is available at eight (08) international airports across Vietnam, including:
- Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City)
- Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi)
- Da Nang Airport (Da Nang)
- Cam Ranh Airport
- Cat Bi Airport
- Lien Khuong Airport
- Can Tho Airport
- Phu Quoc Airport
In this article, you’ll find detailed information about the process for obtaining a visa on arrival at Vietnam’s airports, including how to collect your visa upon arrival at each location. But first, here are some tips for preparing the necessary documents to help you save time at the airport:
- Your original passport: It must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry and have at least two blank pages.
- Visa approval letter: Make sure to have a printed copy of this letter.
- Vietnamese visa application form (Form N1): This entry and exit form should be filled out and include your photo. If you applied for your visa online with us, you’ll find this form included with your visa approval letter.
- Vietnam visa photo: Ensure your photo meets the required size and specifications, which you can check here.
- Stamping fee: The fee is $25 per person for a 1 or 3-month single entry visa and $50 per person for a 1 or 3-month multiple entry visa.
Note: Vietnam’s international airports operate 24/7, so you can have your visa stamped at any time upon arrival.
How to Obtain Your Visa at Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City)
- When arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport for your visa on arrival, head to the “Landing Visa – Cấp thị thực tại chỗ” counter located on the left side as you enter the immigration hall.
- Start by submitting your documents, which should include your passport, a printed copy of your visa approval letter, a completed entry-exit form, and two passport-sized photos (4×6 cm). After submitting your documents, wait for a Vietnamese officer to process your visa stamp.
- Once your name is called, collect your passport from the officer and pay the visa stamping fee in cash (either in USD or VND). The officer will return your passport with the Vietnam visa stamped inside, along with a receipt.
- Take a moment to carefully check the details on your Vietnam visa. If everything is correct, you can proceed to Immigration Control. If you notice any errors, inform the officer immediately before moving on to Immigration Control. If there are no issues, congratulations—you’ve completed your visa-on-arrival process at Tan Son Nhat Airport!
How to Obtain Your Visa at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi City)
- To get your Vietnam visa on arrival at Noi Bai Airport, head to the “Nơi cấp thị thực – Visa upon arrival” counter. However, be aware that this sign may become difficult to see if there is a crowd.
- After you submit your documents at the Visa upon Arrival counter, you will need to wait for processing. If it gets busy, stay alert, as they will call out your name or display your passport/photo. At this stage, you will also pay the stamping fee.
- If you are obtaining visas for yourself and friends, you will receive one pink receipt for all passports, which will already have the visas stamped inside. Make sure to check the visas for any errors while you are still at the counter.
- Once you have your passports back, proceed to the ‘Foreigners’ Passport Control Counter to finalize the process and receive the stamp in your passport.
How to Obtain Your Visa at Da Nang Airport (Da Nang City)
At Da Nang International Airport, follow the signs directing you to the “Visa On Arrival” counter.
Once you arrive at the counter, you will need to submit your documents, which include your original passport, visa approval letter, and completed visa application form with an attached photo, to the Immigration Officer.
After she reviews your documents, she will ask you to take a seat and wait for a few minutes. Once she has finished checking your information, she will call your name and request the payment for the visa stamp fee.
Proceed to the cashier counter located near the Visa On Arrival counter to make your payment. Please be aware that only cash is accepted, and USD is the preferred currency. After payment, you will receive your passport with your visa inside.
The entire process is relatively quick, taking about 15 minutes if all your paperwork is completed prior to landing. After you get your visas and passports back, move on to the Passport Control Counter to have the blue stamp added to your passport.
